Uncovering the Unexpected: The Zollner Story Through iGENEA DNA Testing
Family name Zollner
I embarked on a quest to delve into my ancestral past, focusing particularly on my Zollner lineage. With the help of iGENEA DNA testing, I uncovered several unexpected insights - from an origin in Central Asia to a lifestyle filled with adventure and exploration. These newly discovered aspects of my family history have not only changed my understanding of my heritage but have also inspired me to explore more about this unexpected past.
When I embarked on the journey to uncover my ancestral past with iGENEA, I was excited, curious and a bit anxious. The results offered several surprising revelations about my Zollner lineage that I had never anticipated.
The test illuminated that my ancestors were not originally from Germany as I had always assumed. Instead, tracing back through the Zollner lineage, it revealed that my ancestors originated from Central Asia. The most illuminating insight was the discovery of my distant relation to the Yakuts, a Turkic people mainly residing in the Sakha Republic, in Siberia. I had never envisioned a history rooted in the Asiatic steppe; yet, understanding this new piece of information brought an exciting perspective to my Zollner ancestry.
Beyond geography, learning about the cultural and lifestyle aspects of my ancestors was a revelation. The report indicated that my Zollner ancestors were likely horse breeders and hunters and operated along the Silk Road. Coming from a family of academics, it was a revelation to learn of these contrasting livelihoods in our history.
Furthermore, I was amazed to learn of the migration patterns of the Zollner clan. The results indicated that over centuries, they moved extensively, eventually settling in Germany. Understanding this nomadic aspect of my ancestors speaks to an inherent sense of adventure in my lineage, which aligns with my personal love for travel.
To say that these revelations have influenced my understanding of myself is an understatement. I'm not just a Zollner or a German. I'm the descendant of adventurous nomads, horse breeders, hunters, and tradesmen. These findings, in turn, have also inspired me to educate myself more about the Yakut people and their lineage. I eagerly anticipate expanding my understanding of this part of my heritage.
