Cracking My Genetic Code: Uncovered Viking Ancestors and Scandinavia Connections Through iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Kräft

The iGENEA DNA test proved to be a journey through my lineage, unravelling unexpected links that were woven into the fabric of my family history. I found out that my surname, Kräft, which I had assumed of German origin, has a footprint in Scandinavia, showcasing my ancestors' Viking origins and revealing our family’s colourful, centuries-spanning narrative.

When I took the iGENEA DNA test, I was simply hoping to gain a better understanding of my family history, and perhaps shed some light on some ancestral mysteries that have been passed down through the generations. What I wasn't expecting was the series of surprising and intriguing revelations that awaited me.

The most significant surprise was the origin of my surname, Kräft. Initially, I had always assumed that it was of purely German heritage, given that it's a common German surname. However, the test results unveiled a more complex panorama. It revealed an unexpected link to Scandinavia, where the root of 'Kräft', originally referred to as 'Kraft', might have originated.

In addition, the findings suggested that my ancestors were probably within the migratory folk based on the trails that include Denmark, Sweden, and Norway - regions that I had never considered were part of my lineage. This Norse connection would explain traits that have been prominent in our family like pale skin and light eyes, traits that are typically associated with Scandinavian genes.

Furthermore, the DNA results shed light on some curious genetic adaptations from our ancient ancestors due to the harsh Nordic climate. For instance, the higher count of brown fat cells, a trait that allows a more efficient production of heat when in cold weather.

My journey through the past continued with the revelation that our family could trace its lineage back to the Normans, further emphasizing the Viking origin. Evidently, our history involves trading, exploring, and navigation skills that our Viking ancestors used as their daily survival strategy and now, many centuries later, became a part of us through instinctive traits we possess.

Despite the rollercoaster of surprises that these revelations brought, they not only made me feel closer to our ancestors but also gave me insight into the triumphs, hardships, and adventures they experienced. The iGENEA test has fueled a newfound fascination in exploring the intricacies of my family’s past and made me appreciate the unique genetic makeup that shapes who I am.
