The founding source of the surnamed Canady in North America is Cornelius Canaday, who was brought toMaryland colony in 1648. He was brought to Maryland colony by Thomas Gerard, as an indentured brick maker.

His offspring migrated to Carteret county, in the 1690s. Many of his descendants live in the coastal areas of NC to this day.
