My German grandfather Joseph Ferdinand Burkle (Burkli) migrated from his family home in Offenburg Germany in 1896. offloading from the ship Miovera in Newcastle he found work as a cooper making wooden barrels. there he met an Australian-born girl of German heritage, Ada Jane Rommel believed to be descended from the German Rommel family living in Australia
