When the Serbs and other Slavic tribes settled in the Balkans, they fought wars with the Byzantine empire oftenly. Whenever they would lose a war or a battle, the Byzantines would take Slavic prisoners, and drag them to the eastern parts of the Empire. That could explain the number of Slavs in the Middle East.

of course the amount of Slavs in the Middle East (or Near East, how this area is also called) is not that big, but we can find their traces in the areas near to Europe.
